Using NFCs for your clocking system can be an affordable and super flexible way of tracking your teams' attendance, getting work data right and making sure payroll is accurate, transparent and fair.

Typically with a time and attendance system, much of the cost is in the terminals themselves. This is great if that's what you need, and there are some fantastic systems out there. But it's not for everyone. Sometimes agility is needed, and that's where NFC tags come in.

With employees using their existing smartphones, whether Apple or Android, your team are already experts in the technology we use. Add to this a user friendly app, with big, clear and colour coded buttons, and you've got something that anyone can use.

Manage the data with sensible Shift Rules

Three minutes late? 20 minutes early? Focus will turn everything into sensible data. Do your team start working from the moment they clock? Great, you can pay them from then. Do they hit the break room until a particular time? Focus will start their shift then.

No complex enrolment

Your team don't need to register their face or their fingerprint on a terminal. You can simply assign them to a group within Focus that has the right NFC Tags assigned and they're good to go. New Starters are no problem either - email them their login ahead of time, direct them to download the Focus Self Service app and they are all set to hit the ground running.

Prevent Buddy Clocking

Employees may lend a key fob or a card to a friend and ask them to clock in or out on their behalf. Nobody shares their phone. It just doesn't happen. You always know who it is making a clocking, and a which NFC Tag they were at. You can even throw a Geofence around the location for added security and peace of mind, meaning employees must be at the NFC Tag and the Tag must be where you expect it to be in order for a clocking to be accepted!

Clocking Systems Scale With You

If you need extra clock points they can ben added at very little cost, and the Focus workforce management platform will scale and grow as you do. There is no upper limit on how many employees Focus can manage, with some of our largest customers having many thousand staff.

If your needs change as you grow, you may decide you want a biometric clocking terminal in a particular area or by a particular door.  Other terminals can work in harmony with the Focus system, and a mix of NFC Clocking Points and other terminals will work absolutely fine - employees can clock in at an NFC Tag and clock out at a biometric clock without any problems whatsoever.

NFC Tags are Lower Cost Solution

When you're introducing a time and attendance solution to your business, the hardware costs often dwarf the cost of anything else. Especially when you opt for a fully hosted cloud solution.

Using NFC Tags as your clocking points, and your teams smartphones as the 'hardware', you can all but eliminate the hardware costs. The NFC Tags are robust and water resistant, designed to stand up to hundreds of thousands of individual interactions. That said, they're also semi-disposable and easily replaceable.

An NFC Tag Clocking Solution has all the power of enterprise level software with much, much less of the cost.

Frequently asked questions

How does NFC Clocking work?
Employees have the Focus Self Service app installed on their phone. They open the app, tap to Clock IN or OUT, and then tap their phone to the Focus Wave tag.
Which phones are compatible?
The Focus Wave NFC tag works with both iOS and Android phones. One requirement is that the phone must be NFC compatible. In practical terms, this means most phones released in the last 10 years are NFC compatible.
What if my employee doesn't have a smartphone?
It happens! Despite the ubiquity of smartphones in modern life there are sometimes exceptions. In those cases it is very much up to you, but there are plenty of other ways in which that employee can clock in and out. You could set them up to use Focus Self Service through a web browser, either on their phone or a work computer. You could use a Geofence to control where they clock in and out and set their phone to not require NFC. Or you could create your own clocking point using a tablet, and ask the employee to clock in and out using a pin and password.
Can we use NFC clocking tags for remote working?
Absolutely! The Focus Wave NFC tags are cheap enough that every employee could have their own, should you want that. We have customers that use the Focus Wave system for home working, remote offices, and even company vehicles. Without the need for power or an internet connection, you can stick a Focus Wave tag just about anywhere. And if you're concerned about their use, you can assign them to Geographical areas using geofences, to paint a perfect picture of who is clocking in and out where.
How secure is the system? Can anything be used as an NFC Clocking tag?
The system is super secure. Focus Wave Tags are based upon encrypted NTAG 424 DNA tags, fully compliant with the NFC Forum Type 4 Tag IC specification (Certification ID: 58562), and the Focus Self Service app will only recognise genuine Focus Wave tags.
